Our Story

Searching to start a business while both working, something we could enjoy together, watch grow, and someday semi-retire to - we found it much to our surprise in alpacas! It has become a joy and a passion. There is nothing as captivating as the shimmering luster and beautifully flowing locks of our suris running in the pasture. It is impossible, no matter how hurried and busy your day, not to feel serene when you gaze at the herd calmly grazing - and just stop…and live in the moment. And it is impossible not to feel your heart leap for joy in the evening as your alpacas pronk in the twilight, a seemingly joyous ode to the day. We feel blessed to care for and raise these gentle creatures, and fulfillment when our alpacas come running to greet us as we walk into the barn. We are so pleased for the endless ways alpacas have provided a wonderful return on our investment and become an integral part of our lives.


At our historic 1910 farmhouse in Barrington, IL, our gorgeous suris are a remarkable sight on a classical farm setting, and it pleases us greatly when the enchantment of it all makes people wish to take a moment out of their lives to share with us and our beloved alpacas. Our Breeding Program

Welcome to Andean Vista Ranch, where we offer beautiful suri alpacas of very fine quality to this industry we love... for this lifestyle we treasure. 


Our breeding program is built on renowned proven genetics. We breed purely suri to suri.  We raise and breed suris seeking excellence in true suri phenotype; never compromising our breeding decisions in our desire to produce the finest suri alpacas. We breed for genetic diversity and without preference for country of origin or color, but simply to improve the pure suri breeding stock of tomorrow.


We began our alpaca venture by sourcing renowned genetics for our foundation herd - our commitment to the belief that the dam is every bit as important to the equation as the herdsire.  Though not a large farm, we are pleased to offer one of the most outstanding line-ups of suri herdsires available in the country - Champions and multi-Champions out of proven genetics we all recognize - premier herdsires very discriminately chosen to improve the quality of the next generations.  


Though there is no such thing as a perfect alpaca, we enjoy the quest to make them.  And we have been rewarded and blessed in that quest in the offspring we are producing - with testaments in the show ring and the progeny of our production to support it.  The quality of our award-winning production competes with the very best suri breeders in the country.  We're showing everything we make and we're producing suris who are at the top of their classes, and champion after champion.  Most of our juvis this year were the 2nd or 3rd best in the country in their respective color classes at Nationals and took blue ribbons and/or championships in level 4 and 5 shows:
